About Dr. Popham
Dr. Shelby Popham has been teaching at UCLA, in the Comparative Literature Department, the English Department and Writing Programs for over 30 years, in Writing Programs since 1988. She has a PhD in Comparative Literature (English, French and Italian). From 1988-2019, she was the writing coach for K-University teachers in the California Writing Project. She helped develop the national English Language Common Core Standards and has twice received UCLA's Distinguished Teaching Award. In addition to her academic career, Dr. Popham has published a horror novel, The Bog.
From 2009-2024, she offered summer writing workshops for middle and high school students. These workshops introduced students to university-level writing expectations and provided them with the knowledge and practice necessary to meet those expectations.
Dr. Popham currently provides private and group tutoring throughout the year in the greater Los Angeles area.
